AKARTA: Like the character Memei she plays in the popular films Arisan! and Arisan! 2, Cut Mini admits that socializing with a group of “ladies who lunch” over gossip and a monthly fee — a common social activity in Indonesia known as arisan — isn’t really her cup of tea.

“I only joined such gatherings this year upon the insistence of my cousin’s best friend. I’m the youngest in that arisan group,” Mini was quoted by kompas.com as saying.

She added that she had previously joined a neighborhood arisan group, whose members were decidedly less glamorous than the arisan ladies portrayed in the films she starred in.

Arisan! 2, which is currently screening at cinemas across Indonesia, tells the tale of a divorcee, Memei, a gay architect, Sakti (played by Tora Sudiro), and a society queen bee Andien (Aida Nurmala).
